Unlocking the CODE for Student-Athletes

Our Story

The C.O.D.E. Switch Foundation began as a vision shared by four UC Davis student-athletes inspired by the 2018 Black Student-Athlete Summit. They launched the Coalition for African Diaspora Student-Athletes (CADSA), the first community-focused student-athlete organization on campus. CADSA was dedicated to supporting Black student-athletes, a group often facing unique challenges, including financial stress, mental health concerns, limited professional development opportunities, low graduation rates, and a lack of mentorship.
After two successful years at UC Davis, CADSA leaders and alumni expanded their mission nationally, forming CADSA National to address the needs of Black student-athletes across the country. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CADSA National became a vital support system, providing virtual communities, mental health education, diverse professional development, financial literacy workshops, cultural celebrations, and recognition of outstanding student-athletes. Over four years, CADSA National empowered over 1,500 student-athletes on 25 campuses and connected collegiate athletics with 10 community partners.
Building on this foundation, CADSA National evolved into The C.O.D.E. Switch Foundation, embracing a broader mission to serve student-athletes from diverse backgrounds. Co-leaders Mikaela Adolphus and Xochitl Bryson recognized that the knowledge, resources, and community developed through CADSA could benefit all student-athletes. Guided by its name, The C.O.D.E. Switch focuses on fostering Community, Opportunity, Development, and Empowerment for college student-athletes nationwide.
Today, The C.O.D.E. Switch Foundation provides programming that includes community huddles, professional development, outreach initiatives, and access to mental health and financial literacy resources. By addressing the unique needs of underserved student-athletes, The C.O.D.E. Switch enhances their collegiate experience and prepares them for long-term success beyond sports.
